Nathaniel Wilson III

Advisory Board | FutureSouth Foundation

Nathaniel Wilson III is an enterprise analytics and business intelligence leader whose career sits at the intersection of finance, data engineering, and systems strategy — the precise domain where AI and data tools are reshaping how organizations operate, compete, and make decisions. With more than 15 years of experience across marquee organizations including Ford Motor Company, Deloitte Consulting, and International Paper, he brings both the technical depth and the cross-industry perspective to understand what these shifts mean for workers who are not yet part of the conversation.

At International Paper, Nathaniel currently leads the design and delivery of SQL- and SAP-backed data models, Power BI dashboards, and cross-system reporting pipelines that inform planning and operational decisions at enterprise scale. His work spans the full lifecycle of data infrastructure — from requirements gathering and source-to-target mapping through UAT coordination and production rollout — giving him firsthand visibility into how data and AI-enabled tools are becoming embedded in the workflows of large, complex organizations. Earlier in his career, he built and governed analytical solutions at Ford Motor Company and Deloitte Consulting across finance, marketing, and healthcare domains, developing a broad understanding of how different industries approach data maturity and technology adoption.

What Nathaniel observes from his vantage point is a widening gap. The systems he builds and the tools he works with daily are driving decisions at the enterprise level — but the workers and communities outside those organizations, particularly in rural areas, often have no pathway into that world. His involvement with FutureSouth Foundation is rooted in that recognition: that the same technologies reshaping corporate operations are also determining who gets left behind, and that closing that gap requires deliberate, practical investment in people.

That belief is not abstract for Nathaniel. Born and raised in Mississippi, he understands from personal experience what it means to come from a place where access to opportunity is not assumed. His own educational journey — from community college through a bachelor’s degree at The University of Mississippi, an MBA, and a currently in-progress Master of Science in Data Science — reflects a sustained, stepwise commitment to growth that mirrors the kind of accessible, stackable opportunity FutureSouth seeks to create for others. His pursuit of a graduate degree in data science while working at the enterprise level signals not only technical conviction but a belief that learning is not a destination — it is a practice.

A personal health journey has deepened both his appreciation for family and his conviction that access matters — that where you start should not determine how far you can go. Nathaniel is especially close to his family, including nephews he is deeply invested in, and finds grounding in the quieter rhythms of home life, including the companionship of his shih tzu. These anchors inform a perspective that is as personal as it is professional: that the work of building opportunity is ultimately about the people on the other side of it.

Nathaniel brings to the Advisory Board of FutureSouth Foundation rare technical fluency in the tools and systems driving the modern economy, paired with a genuine, place-rooted commitment to ensuring that rural Southern communities are equipped — not excluded — as that economy continues to evolve.
